About NIDAR
Project NIDAR (Novel Interventions for De-Stigmatization, Addiction, and Rehabilitation), which also means ‘without fear’ in Hindi, is a social impact initiative that seeks to contribute to the fight against substance abuse by synthesizing research, education, and awareness-raising to change the way we think about substance dependence and deaddiction. Specifically, Project NIDAR seeks to advocate for holistic, compassionate, and effective policy responses to substance abuse, with emphasis on highlighting the social and public health dimensions of addiction, focusing on youth from underserved communities.
Through our numerous initiatives, we aim to draw upon research and evidence across multiple domains (healthcare, social policy, economics etc.) to create original resources that provide front-line stakeholders with the tools, skills, and knowledge necessary to make a difference on the ground, particularly when it comes to engaging with the problem of substance abuse in underserved communities. Furthermore, Project NIDAR seeks to provide a platform for experts to share their perspectives on this issue, in the hope of raising public awareness around substance abuse, with emphasis on dismantling the many misconceptions and stigmas that surround the question of narcotic drugs. Finally, beyond our initiatives to raise awareness and change the conversation, Project NIDAR also seeks to materially support the work of partner organizations engaging in valuable and impactful work, through our targeted fundraising efforts.
We believe that compassion and evidence go hand-in-hand, and when used as the guiding principles in informing our responses to substance abuse, have the potential to transform individual lives as well as communities.
